"Some of you got a tall card in the mail this week. Some of you got a square one. I'd guess you've already compared them. Good. That's the right instinct.
Last week I showed you the seam — the second and a half of static where Courtnie's footage ends and everything after it begins. I told you the rest of the tape was shot on her camera. That's true for the next minute of it.
It isn't true for all of it."
—
"Look at the shape first. Arizona fills the frame, top to bottom. Colorado is a box — black above it, black below it. Then look at the writing. Arizona's date and label are big, blocky, across the bottom. Colorado's are small, thin, tucked in the corner.
That isn't one camera held two ways. A camera doesn't change its own font. That's two devices, two cameras, both labeled by the same author: 'COOKIE CAM.'
And they weren't used the same way."
—
"Arizona moves. It starts on Cookie, pushed right up to the lens. It swings across Rachel, Chris and Ryan, sitting together. It comes back and pushes in again until there's nothing in the frame but that face. Somebody chose every one of those angles. Arizona was held.
Which leaves the obvious question — who was holding it? I'll come back to that. I don't have it yet."
—
"Now Colorado. Two shots. A hooded figure on the floor against a white door. Then a different hooded figure on the floor against the same white door.
Watch the edge of the frame. The door handle. The line where the wall meets the floor. In each of those shots, nothing moves. Not a wobble, not a breath. Arizona can't hold still for half a second. Colorado never moves once.
Nobody was holding it. There was nobody to hold it. Both people in that house are hooded on this tape. Nobody in Colorado was free.
The Colorado camera was set down, pointed at a door, and left running."
—
"Which gives me a problem I'm not going to solve for you tonight.
Both cameras say 12/24/24. Both say COOKIE CAM. Something was in a room in Arizona choosing camera angles. Something was in a house in Colorado — a two-hour flight away — setting a camera down on the floor and walking off. Same night.
I don't have an explanation for that. I'm not going to invent one."
"There was, however, a witness."
TANGO — BORDER COLLIE — RESIDENT
"This is Tango. He lives in that house. He lived there on December 24th, 2024.
Tango is a border collie. I want to be precise about what that means, because it matters. A border collie is a working animal bred for one job: noticing when something in his space is where it shouldn't be, and doing something about it. Border collies don't let things go. They investigate.
On the night in question, something came into Tango's house, set a camera down, and left it running. It was never bumped. Never nudged. Never investigated. Nothing in that frame moves that shouldn't.
Either Tango knew what came in, or there was nothing there he recognized as worth investigating.
I recognize the limits of canine testimony. He is the only living witness to the placement of that camera, and he cannot be interviewed. Footage of the witness was provided by a source in the household. He was cooperative.
He declined to comment."
—
"One more thing about Colorado, and I want to say it carefully.
Three of them sat together in Arizona. They could see each other. Sydney was a two-hour flight away, hooded, in a house where the only other person was hooded too. On this tape, she's the only one of the four who's held, and held somewhere none of the others are.
Before anyone does the math on that — the Arizona footage is the end of that night, not the whole of it. It's where the camera found them, not where they started. Courtnie was taken alone; you saw that last week. The three in Arizona were brought together. Every one of the four was on their own for part of that night.
Sydney was just alone on camera."
"I said in the first episode that Sydney and John were together in Colorado. They were in the same house. They were never in the same shot. I should have been more precise.
So. I can go to Colorado. I can ask Santa directly what he knew about any of this. Or I can go back through what this family wrote down, and see what else is in it.
Tell me where you'd go."
